John, tell your representative to stop them!

John, there's a sweetheart deal for Duke Energy being rushed through the state House as we speak.

Voters like you have had no time to vet this bill. Legislators have not been able to offer amendments. It continues to be discussed behind closed doors more than in public.

Now at 3 PM, this bill will face its final committee vote and then immediately head to the state House floor at 4:00.

Your voice matters in this debate, and it's urgent you let your representative hear it before they vote! Click here to email them »

A few lobbyists and legislators wrote a secret sweetheart deal for Duke Energy. Tell your representative to not let Duke profit at your expense! »

John,

Rarely does anything good come from behind closed doors.

For months, there were rumors Duke Energy was scheming with a small group of legislators to concoct a secret energy bill. No one knew what was in it, but we had a feeling it wouldn’t be good.

And we were right.

Now that it’s in the light, we must fight. Click here to email your representative »

House Bill 951 does too little to advance solar, wind, and energy efficiency, and doesn’t meet the carbon reduction goals in Gov. Cooper’s Clean Energy Plan. With the country baking at record temperatures and suffering unprecedented drought, it’s never been clearer we need urgent action on climate.

But as usual, politicians care more about protecting polluter profits than people. This bill isn’t good enough. We need a comprehensive energy bill that meets the moment and is developed with public input.

Act now

This bill would direct Duke to replace coal power plants with natural gas, locking in more fossil fuels for decades and sticking you with the bill when those plants aren’t even in use anymore.

They could reap an extra $5 billion on the backs of those who can least afford it, and the bill would take away some of the state Utilities Commission’s power to hold them accountable.

Legislators are trying to put this bill on the fast track, and we need to derail it.
