Home care workers take to the streets DC-area home care workers joined fellow workers across the country yesterday as they took to the streets to demand jobs, care, and justice. "Any plan put forth by the Administration or Congress to move our country forward needs to ensure home care workers are respected, protected, and paid—once and for all," said the Jobs Care Justice coalition https://careisessential.org/, which coordinated 40 events across the country. "We’re in DC with thousands demanding Congress recognize that home and community care work —and the majority women and people of color who do this work — are valued!" tweeted 1199SEIU Maryland/DC. "The devaluation of care work robs so many compassionate, dedicated and talented people," said SEIU 32BJ District Director Louis Davis. "Our nation can't move forward until we address these injustices and give care workers the protection and pay they deserve."
MD workers notch another win in UI fight "Another loss in court for @GovLarryHogan is a win for Maryland workers! Pandemic UI benefits will keep going out through mid-October," tweeted UNITE HERE Local 25 after news broke that Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan will not challenge the preliminary injunction that prevents him from ending enhanced unemployment early. Hogan "is polishing up his Republican bona fides, trying to make himself look like a tough guy by cutting vital benefits for laid-off workers — including many of our members. He should be ashamed,” said Local 25 political director Sam Epps.
UMD workers rally over telework University staff at AFSCME Local 1072 rallied at the UMD College Park Main Administration Building on Tuesday, urging UMD president Pines to meet and discuss concerns about the school's outdated telework policy. "Telework is the future," said AFSCME Maryland president Pat Moran. "It's going to save our campus money and help protect our earth. Shame on UMD for refusing to work with AFSCME 1072 to negotiate a smart and fair policy"
