Dear John

Our teams and AE founder Michael Cassidy in South Africa appreciate your prayers as looters run riot across the country, burning down shops, malls and vehicles with impunity. Reporting from the scene, Michael said the following:

“Roads to (our area) are closed. Howick looted. Edendale Mall torched & 90% goods & clothes looted. Every shop in Central Pietermaritzburg looted. All in Hilton told to stay home. Have home hoses hooked up & extra supplies secured. A war zone, really. Farmers also much endangered by arson. The Zuma arrest has been spark to ignite time-bomb of rage & despair over poverty, unemployment, & all economic injustice. Then there is opportunistic criminality & anarchist spirit running wild & playing into it. Westmeath Mall near Durban totally gutted. Our Hilton super market closed today. Not sure re tomorrow. At our local Hilton Life Hospital, day staff can't get to work & night staff can't get home. Covet prayers for safety. Blessings.” – Michael Cassidy

International Team Leader Stephen Mbogo, in his report linked below, asks us to pray that the military acts with discretion and calm returns as soon as possible.

With towns in lockdown and access to hospitals blocked by burning obstacles and general chaos, caring for the injured and sick during this time is severely challenged. Our AE Australia team members Marieke and Chantelle, both of South African origin, also advise that there is not a single household they know that has not been affected by the covid virus. With South Africa accounting for 40% of all covid deaths on the continent, Marieke shared with the team recently that she is too afraid to look at social media because it's filled with sadness. “The numbers are becoming names of friends and family” she said.

In our prayer points below, we do ask you would uplift our brothers and sisters in prayer, who are in all kinds of situations throughout Africa.

Please pray:

* For governments and leaders in South Africa, Africa and around the world to manage the crisis even better
* For the new believers in Kenya who have come to Christ through the latest mission in Mombasa.
* That we would be united in care for our brothers and sisters in Christ in Africa, doing all we can to lift each other up with love and good deeds
