People For Member,

Right now, a bipartisan group of senators is actively negotiating an
infrastructure bill that has the potential to shape the trajectory of our
nation for decades to come.

With significant new investments in America’s roads, public transit,
airports, waterways, electric vehicle technology, broadband internet, and
much more, this bill could transform our economy while leveling the
playing field to provide greater equity to communities that have too often
been left out.

But with some Republicans already balking at the proposal, we must demand
that Majority Leader Chuck Schumer not budge an inch on some of the most
urgent items in the package that would address the issues related to
climate change and racial and economic equity.

[ [link removed] ]Sign the petition now and urge Majority Leader Schumer to stand firm
and ensure that any infrastructure bill include bold investments in
fighting climate change and improving racial and economic equity! >>

For decades we’ve ignored the dangers of our rapidly changing climate and
have postponed investments that would help alleviate the long-term harm to
our environment. As we continue to endure volatile and extreme weather
patterns, we can no longer ignore our impact on the world around us. Bold
investments are needed NOW, and we cannot allow negotiations to result in
only a modest investment that does not meet the urgency of the moment.

Any infrastructure proposal that passes must also acknowledge and address
the communities of color that have long borne the brunt of our nation’s
previous infrastructure projects. Black and brown communities have been
destroyed for the development of our nation’s interstate highways,
neglected infrastructure upgrades have caused illness in cities like
Flint, MI, unaffordable housing options have displaced countless families,
and the list goes on. These inequities were at worst deliberate or at best
negligent and it’s time we take bold steps to address them as a nation.

[ [link removed] ]Join me in urging Senator Schumer do all he can to ensure the
infrastructure proposal is as robust as possible >>

What’s clear to me and so many others is that unless we go big on this
infrastructure proposal – one that a bipartisan majority of the public
supports – we will fail to address some of the most pressing issues our
nation is facing. Let’s fight to make sure that President Biden’s pledge
to Build Back Better is signed into law.

Thanks for everything you do.

Ben Jealous, President
