In the 1950s and 60s, our government waged a war on poverty — not on the poor.
We knew that in the greatest country on earth, no one should be too poor to survive. And that when we dedicate ourselves to lifting up those who are suffering, we all rise with that tide.
But in the modern era, things have changed. Donald Trump and other Republican leaders have shifted that ideal — away from fighting poverty, and towards fighting the poor. In their minds, it makes more sense to take food stamps away from struggling families, so they can afford a tax cut for the rich.
In a modern, moral, and wealthy nation like ours, no one should be denied the basic necessities they need to survive. We must center the values of compassion, not contempt, in our politics.
Since day one, Ro has done that. From his work towards expanding the EITC to working with rural communities to figure out a pathway to the modern economy that includes everyone, Ro’s never forgotten about the working class.
Seriously, thank you for everything you’ve done for this movement. People like you, believing in our ability to chart a better course for this nation, have been the foundation of this campaign since day one. Trust us on this — we’re not going to slow down, and we’re never going to give up the fight.
In solidarity,
Team Ro
