Did you see the latest news from Texas? Democrats in the Texas House have
left the state altogether to deny quorum and ensure that Republicans can’t
pass the latest in a nationwide string of state-level voter suppression
bills during their special legislative session. And they’re asking, again,
for the Senate to take up and pass the For the People Act, S. 1, to
guarantee voting rights nationwide.

They’re not the only ones asking for real federal action on democracy --
from actions in Philadelphia during Biden’s speech today to ongoing work
in states like Arizona and West Virginia, activists and elected officials
alike understand the importance of passing S. 1.

Now that the Senate is back in session on Capitol Hill, and with this
latest proof of why federal democracy reform is so crucial, we need to
keep up the pressure to demand that senators pass the For the People Act
without letting the filibuster get in the way.

We’re deeply inspired by the conviction and determination that Texas
Democrats have shown in the face of overwhelming hostility to the
foundations of a democratic system. As we move into these next few weeks,
it’ll be crucial that we take those qualities to heart and demand real
