Yesterday, Democratic members of the Texas state legislature courageously left the state in a bold attempt to block Republican’s Jim Crow-era voter suppression legislation — risking arrest to defend the right to vote.
Now, these brave Texas Democrats are in Washington D.C., urging Congress to pass the For the People Act and defend the right to vote from attacks by Republican lawmakers in Texas and across the nation.
We cannot sit back while Republicans keep trying to rip away the sacred right to vote state by state.
The For the People Act is a transformative piece of legislation that would dramatically expand voting access, eliminate partisan gerrymandering, weaken the influence of dark money in politics, and more.
Republicans know these measures would allow more people to make their voices heard in our democracy, and that’s exactly what they’re scared of. They want to silence us in order to continue to hoard power — we can’t let that happen.
