We launched this organization 5 years ago because we recognized a glaring need: the need to advocate for resources, funding, and solutions for communities plagued by gun violence.
We wanted to give those most impacted by this issue the opportunity to lead the conversation and propose the solutions or ideas that work for them.
With your help, we’ve accomplished so much over the past 5 years. But as there are still too many people dying every day from gun violence, our work is far from finished.
Our work relies on the generous support of grassroots supporters like yourself, who believe that communities of color should be centered in violence prevention work.
It is directly because of this support that we have been able to build power for and with communities of color to change the conversation by leading with those closest to the pain of everyday gun violence.
And it is directly because of this support that we’ve been able to accomplish so much over the past few years, including:
- Doubling our staff and expanding our work to five key states;
- Training over 50,000 people on community-based solutions through our By Design education campaign;
- Starting our Speakers Bureau by recruiting over 500 community leaders to share their stories, expertise, and ideas with policymakers;
- Testifying in Congressional hearings and on the international stage to elevate the gun violence crisis in America;
- Creating the Invest in Us Coalition that successfully advocated the Biden Administration for a historic $5 billion to end community gun violence;
- And so much more!
And yet, the road to ending the gun violence epidemic in America is still long. While the past five years have brought significant steps forward in centering our communities of color, the next five years will be even more critical.
