I'm running for Congress to heal the divides in our district and nation. Will you help me on this important mission by chipping in today? secure.actblue.com/donate/2107-q3-dh?refcode=210713-email
What strikes me as I travel around the First Congressional District and meet with people is that we all want the same basic things.
We want good jobs, to make a decent living, and to support our families.
We want safe neighborhoods, safe communities, and safe streets.
We want affordable and accessible health care.
We want good schools and opportunities for professional and vocational education.
We want to enjoy our wonderful natural resources and preserve them for future generations.
It doesn’t matter if we’re Democrats, Republicans, white, Black, Brown, men, women, watermen, tradesmen, farmers, factory workers, professionals, or businesspeople. We all want the same things.
So why are we so divided?
Politicians like to emphasize our differences. It helps them attract voters. It rallies people who agree with them. And sad as it may be, pitting “us” vs. “them” wins elections, and politics is all about winning.
But when the election is over and it’s time to govern, shouldn’t our elected officials stop pointing fingers at “them” and work for all of us? After all, as I’ve said, we all want the same things.
Look, I’ve represented the United States in tough places. I’ve worked under Democratic and Republican administrations. I’ve spent much of my professional career in the Middle East trying to bridge gaps between Israelis and Palestinians. Few differences are more profound than theirs. But I’ve been able to find common ground and areas of agreement, especially when it comes to economic opportunities to improve the quality of life for everyone.
I can do the same in the First District. I want to represent everyone and work with fellow Democrats and Republicans to find common ground. I am running for Congress because I want to be a public servant, not a politician. I want to bring more economic growth and opportunity to our district and protect the health and safety of every person and every community.
Because when it comes down to it, we all want the same things.
Chip in any amount today and let's get this done.
All the best,
Dave Harden
