Last Thursday, we hosted a great virtual discussion with some leading local organizers in our first three partner states: Alabama, Mississippi, and West Virginia.

There was a clear, consistent message across the event: if we give organizers in these states the resources they need, we can change the political map. We can rebuild the political and civic infrastructure Democrats and progressives need to stop the GOP’s anti-voting rights, anti-equality, and anti-justice agenda in its tracks. And we can build power for the people and places that our political system has disenfranchised and disempowered for too long.

But this is the work of a decade, not the work of an election cycle. And it needs to start NOW.

Our panel eloquently explained the opportunities in their states and why help from places like Groundwork and all of you can make a difference.

The secret to winning the long game and shifting the electoral results in our partner states is showing up, meeting people where they are, and following the lead of local organizers like Arekia, Eva, and Renée.

It’s investing in these places in a significant and sustainable way, so that local organizers have the resources to knock doors again and again, to talk to voters about what motivates them, to build trust, and to show how politics and policies impact daily lives.

Groundwork Project was founded by Joe Kennedy III to support community organizers, advocates, and activists nationwide who are working year-round to build a just, free, and equitable future for all. For decades, the Democratic Party has under-resourced, under-valued, and under-recognized the importance of local political infrastructure and year-round grassroots organizing. This needs to change.

We're directing resources, attention, and support to the local advocates and state-based organizations doing the deep, long-term organizing that Democrats need to build a more diverse party, expand its base, win elections, and deliver progressive policy reforms.
