John --
I just finished watching President Joe Biden address the nation in Philadelphia at the Constitution Center, and I want to talk about what he said with you.
President Biden chose to speak in Philly because our city is the birthplace of American democracy -- a city I'm proud to be fighting for every day in Congress. It's no exaggeration to say that we are living in the middle of a national assault on our civil rights, fueled by Trump's Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen.
The right to vote is the foundation of all our other legal rights in America, John. President Biden is using all powers of the executive branch to protect and advance the sacred, constitutional right to vote. And for the future health of our democracy, the American people need to join him.
I'm standing in solidarity with President Biden against the recent outrageous attacks on American democracy, including calling on Congress to restore the original protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 with the passage of the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Will you add your name right now to support President Biden's fight against voter suppression?
Since November, state lawmakers have enacted 28 laws in 17 states that restrict the right to vote. The Supreme Court just upheld an outrageous voter suppression law in Arizona. And right now, Democrats in the Texas' state legislature are fleeing the state to stop Republican lawmakers from passing yet another law that restricts access to the ballot box.
Republican lawmakers are proving again that their loyalty is to Donald Trump. They are abusing their own political power to chip away at our civil rights in ways America hasn't seen since the Civil Rights era. It's despicable and un-American -- but we the people have the power to stop them.
I am adding my name next to President Biden's and Vice President Kamala Harris's to demand a stop to this assault on our democracy. I will be working in Congress to take aggressive action to defend our right to vote. To join me, add your name now.
In solidarity,
Dwight
