Jack, Congress returns this week to kick off what could be its most crucial four weeks in years.
During this time, Congress will tackle the bipartisan infrastructure bill AND the budget resolution that will include reconciliation instructions -- which will define the size of President Biden's signature spending bill; the American Jobs and Family Plan. Combined, these could end up being the largest bills Congress has EVER passed!
We are closing in on 1 million grassroots actions--letters, calls, petitions, event RSVPs--taken so far to help pass President Biden's Build Back Better agenda. Over the next four weeks we will be ramping up our efforts to make sure your voices are heard ringing loud and clear in the halls of Congress, so that all of the legislation making up Build Back Better is as big, bold and green as possible. Can you give $5 today to make sure we have the resources to run a strong campaign?
As the country emerges from the COVID pandemic, we don't just have the opportunity to build back to where things were before, but the chance to build back better. It's our chance to create an economy that includes Black and Latino Americans, Native Americans, immigrants, women, young people, rural Americans, working class families -- everyone that has been left behind in our economy for far too long.
The American Jobs and Families plan could be life changing for many Americans. Between all of the different bills, there is as much as $4,000,000,000,000 ($579 billion in the infrastructure deal, plus $3,500,000,000,000 in the American Family and Jobs plan) in public investment at stake. We are talking about things like $500 billion in green public works, universal child care, a permanent extension of the child tax credit, adding dental, hearing and vision coverage to Medicare, and lowering the eligibility age of Medicare to 60.
Under reconciliation, we only need a simple majority to pass what could be the biggest legislative victory in nearly a decade. However, with such a slim majority in the Senate, it will take everything we have to keep progressive and moderate Democrats united in this vote. That's why we have been ramping up the activism from our grassroots community, who to date have taken 922,705 actions--letters, calls, petitions and more--to make sure that we make the most of this once in a decade opportunity to expand our social safety net, step up our efforts to fight climate change, and build an America that works for everyone.
Over the next four weeks we are mobilizing Daily Kos readers and activists to take immediate and effective action and pass a federal budget, an infrastructure bill and an American Family and Jobs plan that reflects our progressive priorities. We need your help to execute a strong and robust campaign. You can help us by giving $5 today.
Keep fighting,
Amanda McKay, Daily Kos
