At Amick Farms, 175 chickens are slaughtered every minute -- nearly three birds per second and more than one million birds per week.
Amick Farms is just one of nearly 40 slaughterhouses that the USDA has allowed to operate with high-speed kill lines. At recklessly fast speeds of up to 175 birds slaughtered every minute, workers make critical errors—and put themselves in danger—as they rush to keep up.

With these increased slaughter line speeds, birds endure suffering beyond already cruel standard practices.
Our 2018 undercover investigation ([link removed]) revealed the horrors of high-speed slaughter lines for chickens at Amick Farms. Watch our investigation footage below.

“Birds can be seen - still hanging from the shackles - in the water bath…it is likely that the birds would have experienced prolonged, possibly painful electrical shock while they died of drowning. This situation is totally unacceptable from an animal welfare perspective.” -Dr. Sara Shields, in response to Animal Outlook's footage
The dangers of high-speed chicken slaughter:
* Birds being punched, shoved and thrown down the fast-paced kill line
* Birds being scalded alive
* Birds slowly drowning in electrified stunning baths
* Birds still being conscious when their throats are cut
* Workers making critical errors
* Workers suffering crippling pain and hand injuries

In 2020 Animal Outlook, alongside four other organizations, sued the USDA over its reckless high-speed slaughter program. We are currently in litigation still fighting for these animals. ([link removed])
