Medicare expansion is a costly, ineffective reform

Thanks to these mounting costs, Medicare is running out of money. According to a September report from the Congressional Budget Office, Medicare’s main Part A hospital insurance trust fund will be insolvent by 2024. To shore up the fund for another 25 years, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission says that lawmakers would need to cut spending by 17%.

A lower Medicare age solves nothing

Many retirees believe they “paid into” Medicare throughout their working lives and so expect the program to be there for them in their golden years. But Medicare’s trust fund is running out of money. The Congressional Budget Office now projects that the program’s Part A hospital insurance fund will be exhausted in three years.
