NCLEJ invites qualified rising third year law students and recent law graduates with a commitment to social justice, legal research and strong writing to apply for Legal Fellowships beginning in the fall of 2022, including Skadden, Equal Justice Works, Justice Catalyst, and any other relevant fellowships.

Our current advocacy is focused on:
1) preserving and maintaining access to government benefits;
2) protecting and advancing the rights of workers;
3) combatting unlawful and abusive debt collection; and
4) advocating for people with disabilities.

Fellows will join with staff attorneys to support new and ongoing impact litigation and class actions, policy analysis, and advocacy. Previous fellows have had the opportunity to develop facts and research for new litigation; participate in discovery matters in pending litigation; conduct legal and policy research on a variety of issues; participate in settlement negotiations; draft legal briefs; and collaborate with grassroots and community-based organizations across the country.

Potential fellowship project areas may include:
* Advocacy to end debt-based driver’s license suspensions.
* Advocacy to end racial and income/wealth discrimination in access to utilities, such as water, internet, and electricity.
* Advancing the rights of workers.

Qualifications: Applicants must be either recent graduates or forthcoming graduates (by Spring/Summer 2022) of an accredited school of law and must demonstrate a commitment to social justice. NCLEJ will work closely with selected applicants to develop project proposals and will provide financial support throughout the fellowship funding application cycle.

NCLEJ's small team of dynamic and seasoned staff are committed to mentoring up-and-coming public interest and movement attorneys who are excited to work at the intersection of litigation, policy, and grassroots organizing.
