In celebration of Indigenous People’s Day, Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights stands in solidarity with Indigenous people working to transform the world towards climate justice for generations to come! Let’s celebrate and uplift the voices of Indigenous women all over the world fighting against climate change!
From the Amazonian rainforest to the Arctic, the ever-growing climate crisis has endangered the traditions, homes, and livelihoods of Indigenous peoples, especially women. Women in these impacted communities are leading the fight against climate change. Together, they are mobilizing to counter the impact of the changing ecosystem to protect their homes, families, and rights.
And yet, Indigenous people of these lands continue to be targeted for fighting for what we should all be fighting for.

Urgent Action Fund is one of four organizations that have come together to create a collaborative fund supporting indigenous peoples, women, and youth around the world, the CLIMA Fund. As part of the CLIMA Fund, UAF works to amplify the solutions Indigenous peoples are bringing to our climate crisis. Grassroots activists we support like our grantee, The Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN), makes it a priority to engage women worldwide in political advocacy, on-the-ground projects, direct action, training, and movement building for global climate justice.
One of the most important ways we can commemorate Indigenous People’s Day is to honor the stewards of the environment. Let’s live as they do and become caretakers of the lands, oceans, waterways, and air!
