I’ve been waiting to send this email to you all for a
while, John.

My friend, my brother, one of my personal HEROES — Lee Merritt — is
OFFICIALLY RUNNING FOR TEXAS ATTORNEY GENERAL.

I’m going to break down this race for you in just a second. Especially for
those of you who aren’t as familiar with Lee Merritt and the work he’s
done (or what he’s up against). But first, I need to ask a big favor of

Lee is a civil rights attorney and activist who has represented the
families of George Floyd, Ronald Greene, Marvin Scott III, and more.

For years, his entire law practice has been dedicated to defending the
victims of police brutality and their families. I’ve never seen someone as
caring or committed.

Lee is also a BRILLIANT leader. He understands deeply how police violence,
environmental justice, immigrant rights, and so much more intersect.

But here’s the catch: he’s going up against some super corrupt and racist
competition. We’re talking the worst of the worst here.

For starters, Texas is the Wild West of campaign finance laws — with
virtually ZERO restrictions on how much money millionaires and
billionaires can give to Lee’s opponents.

It’s also one of the most heavily gerrymandered states in US history.
Literally YESTERDAY — less than 24 hours ago — state Republicans tried to
BAN drive-thru and 24-hour voting and make mail-in voting harder than
ever.

But it gets worse: the current incumbent, Ken Paxton, is a man who met in
DC with the organizers of the Capitol Riots on January 6th. And is now
refusing to disclose the contents of his conversation with the public.

In my eyes, this is the PERFECT distillation of what our entire movement
is facing: a fearless, principled civil rights champion going up against
unchecked corporate donors, rampant voter suppression, and a
white-supremacist sympathizer in office.

excited. This is our chance to make some serious history, and what Lee is
able to raise in the first 24 hours has the chance to send TIDAL WAVES in
