SIGNATURE NEEDED: Demand Congress act to stop gun violence →

Friends,

According to the CDC, guns were responsible for nearly 40,000 deaths in 2017, more than the number of deaths caused by automobile accidents.

And yet, the Republican majority in Washington refuses to even consider common-sense legislation to require background checks for all gun purchases.

Despite overwhelming support across the country for this simple, life-saving bill, Republicans refuse to cave. In fact, an astonishing 97% of the American people agree that we need universal background checks on gun sales -- regardless of political party.

But Republican leaders have the NRA to answer to -- and they're not willing to take any action that might threaten that relationship.

We can't afford to let another day go by without taking steps to reduce the epidemic of gun violence. This is quite simply a matter of life and death.

Please add your name to join the majority of the country and DEMAND our leaders take action to protect our communities from gun violence:

Look, the facts speak for themselves:

In 2017, federal background checks stopped more than 112,000 gun sales out of approximately 8.6 million transactions.

This tells us that universal background checks can work. The failed argument that "bad people will always find a way to get guns" is simply not true. We know how to make it harder for guns to end up in the wrong hands while still allowing law-abiding citizens their Second Amendment rights -- and that's through requiring universal background checks.

That's why John supports background checks on every gun sale. That INCLUDES guns purchased at gun shows, or any other method that allows the purchaser to bypass the background check system.

And we can't stop there. We must get assault rifles and weapons of war off our streets. We must make sure that people with histories of domestic abuse can't access firearms. And we must ban all accessories designed to increase the rate of fire of a semiautomatic weapon, including bump stocks and trigger cranks.

Friends, we know how to make serious progress against the gun violence epidemic. The question is, do we have the courage and conviction to get it done?

Our communities are counting on us. Don't let them down -- add your name today to expand background checks and demand gun safety:
