Practicing safe and effective staffing — mandating minimum nurse-to-patient ratios — is one of the most effective ways to protect hospital patients.
This isn’t an issue that’s often talked about, but it’s an important one: safe staffing for nurses.
Practicing safe and effective staffing — mandating minimum nurse-to-patient ratios — is one of the most effective ways to protect hospital patients. But right now, there is no federal legislation in the United States that sets a limit on the number of patients a nurse can be assigned, and it’s leading to a patient safety crisis.
With every additional patient a nurse is forced to care for, the likelihood of preventable medical errors increases. In fact, preventable death caused by medical error is the third leading cause of death in the United States.
That’s why Team Ro is teaming up with National Nurses United and other progressives to help raise support for safe staffing. Can you join thousands of others in adding your name to our petition for safe staffing?
Ro’s home state of California is the only state that currently has a safe staffing mandate, and it is life-saving for both patients and nurses. The results of California’s experience demonstrate that mandatory nurse-to-patient ratios decrease patient mortality and morbidity and increase patient safety and quality of care. We need to fight for this sound, life-saving health care policy nationwide.
Unsafe staffing is, above all, dangerous for public health — and we have a real opportunity to do something about it now. Join us and add your name to demand safe nurse-to-patient staffing ratios.
