Team,
For years, nurses and patients alike have suffered from unsafe nurse-to-patient staffing ratios in healthcare facilities — a crisis only exacerbated by the pandemic.
Staffing shortages not only overwork nurses and lead to more preventable medical errors — studies have shown that they also increase the rates of hospital-acquired infections, which kill nearly 100,000 people in our country each year. This is especially alarming now, when the pandemic is causing longer than usual hospital stays.
Yet we have no federal legislation that prevents nurses from being assigned an unlimited number of patients, putting both nurses and patients at risk. We’ve got to put an end to this public health crisis before it gets even worse.

Thank you for speaking out for nurse and patient safety. It’s especially important as we keep working to get to the other side of this pandemic.
