POLITICO just confirmed what we already knew: Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao is playing favorites with our country's infrastructure and our tax dollars.

Chao has met with officials from Kentucky -- the state that her husband, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, represents -- substantially more than officials from any other state. In fact, 25% of Chao's scheduled meetings during her first 14 months on the job were with Kentucky officials -- sometimes at the behest of McConnell's staffers after they indicated the officials were "friends" or "loyal supporters."

Chao has rolled out the welcome mat for Kentucky but has given New Jersey the cold shoulder even though we've been waiting for her to break ground on one of the country's largest infrastructure projects: the Gateway Tunnel.

Chao needs to stop doing what's right for her and start doing what's right for the country.
