You may have missed it (and I wouldn’t blame you), but the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) was held in Dallas, Texas over the weekend. This was the first CPAC conference since Trump lost the election — and it was a doozy.

It was CPAC’s biggest conference ever and 70% of the attendees expressed their strong support for Trump in a 2024 race. Attendees also used the event to celebrate some of the worst far-right impulses we’ve seen since 2016 — including the rising tide of dangerous anti-vaccination messaging.

Even as cases of the Delta Variant surge in low vaccine areas, on Saturday CPAC attendees enthusiastically cheered a comment by a well-known vaccine skeptic about the U.S. falling short of our vaccine goals. Dr. Fauci rightly called it “horrifying”.

But that’s not all that was going on in Texas this weekend. While CPAC was meeting in Dallas, just three hours south the state legislature was moving ahead with its efforts to ban drive-thru and 24-hour voting options, open the door to harassment of voters by partisan poll watchers, and further restrict the state’s voting-by-mail rules.

Texas may be ground zero for this movement, but it’s not alone. We need to be prepared to stop Trump and his conspiracy theorist allies from taking power again in 2022 — and beyond. And it’s going to take a committed movement of grassroots activists to get the job done and win.

I need you to be part of this. Can you chip in $7 or whatever you can to help us build a strong grassroots movement to keep advancing the goals of the American people and protect our Democratic majority? We can’t let extremists and conspiracy theorists be in a position to set the agenda for our future:
