BREAKING: The Houston Chronicle reports that "Texas Democrats are fleeing to D.C. today to thwart Republican voting restriction bills."
For the 2nd time this year, heroic Dems in the Texas House are risking arrest by walking out of the Texas State Capitol to block Republicans from passing new voter suppression laws. In DC, the Texas Dems will push senators to protect the right to vote nationally by passing the For The People Act.
We just teamed up with veterans group Common Defense to do the same -- press senators to pass the For The People Act. Many disabled veterans who fought to protect and defend our democracy rely on the very voting measures Republicans are trying to restrict.
Support veterans by signing on to their letter telling senators to protect the right to vote by passing the For The People Act and reforming the filibuster. -- The PCCC Team (@BoldProgressive)
EMAIL FROM YESTERDAY:
Today, we are teaming up with veterans group Common Defense to make clear to senators that to protect America’s democracy and voting rights for all, the Senate must pass the For The People Act and reform the filibuster.
Veterans are trusted messengers in our communities. They are a group that many senators -- including Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema -- listen to. Amplifying veterans’ message will put pressure on our elected officials and help secure voting rights for all.
Sign on to veterans’ message telling senators all Americans deserve an equal voice in the elections that shape our future. Pass the For The People Act and reform the filibuster to get the job done of protecting America’s democracy. (Then, please forward this to others -- especially to veterans and their family members.)
Text of the letter from veterans to US Senators:
Millions of disabled people, including many military veterans, will have their right to vote taken away by Republican-run state governments unless the Senate takes urgent action to guarantee early voting, mail-in voting, and other protections that enable Americans to vote. We urge senators to pass the For The People Act and to reform the filibuster to get the job done of protecting America’s democracy. Veterans served this country to protect and defend American democracy -- not to defend the Senate filibuster. All Americans deserve an equal voice in the elections that shape our future. But all across the country, Republican state voter suppression laws hit veterans with disabilities particularly hard and threaten to disenfranchise veterans from the democratic rights they sacrificed so much to defend. Many of America’s 4.7 million veterans with service-connected disabilities can’t drive to a polling place, stand in line for long hours, or go to a crowded or chaotic polling place. Recent rulings show that this conservative Supreme Court won’t protect the right to vote or stand up to the corrosive influence of dark money on America’s democracy. This is why the Senate must take action, even if it means ending the filibuster rule that no American took an oath to protect and defend. |
Co-sign veterans’ letter to senators here and show that we stand together in solidarity. (You do not need to be a veteran to sign.)
Together, tens of thousands of us have been taking action to protect voting rights -- calling senators, rallying in the streets, attending vigils, and more.
Now, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee -- alongside allies including the Progressive Reform Network, Daily Kos, The Juggernaut Project, Progress America, Integrity First Voter Action Project, The Six PAC, Iron PAC, Crazy Eight PAC, and People United PAC -- is proud to stand in solidarity with veterans group Common Defense telling Congress that all Americans deserve an equal voice in the elections that shape our future.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
