Dear John,
The ink is dry and true progress for Maine’s democracy has been signed into law.
I am thrilled to update you that the four critical bills to expand voting rights and ensure equitable access to the ballot box in Maine that we prioritized this session have been signed into law by Governor Mills!
By signing these bills, Gov. Mills shows us that equitable access to the ballot box is critical to creating a just and fair democracy for all current and future eligible voters of the Pine Tree State.
We worked with our allies in our new democracy coalition, Mainers for Modern Elections (MME), to get these essential bills through the Legislature and to Governor Mills’ desk but we could not have done it without you. Thank you for signing petitions, writing your legislators, and supporting us every step of the way.
I know that the next time I cast my ballot I’ll be thinking of and thanking all of you.
All my best,
Will P.S. Earlier this month, our Executive Director Maureen Drouin, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, and League of Women Voters of Maine Board President Jill Ward authored a piece in the Bangor Daily News on why they’re excited about Maine’s leadership on voting rights, but fear that other states are falling behind.
