John,
Breaking News: The White House just issued an executive order urging the FCC to restore net neutrality.1
This is hugely encouraging! But before the FCC can actually vote to restore net neutrality, the Biden administration needs to nominate a 5th commissioner to the agency––someone with no ties to the telecom industry who will be a champion for Internet freedom.
Will you chip in today to help us leverage this momentum and drive calls and emails to the White House while the iron is hot?
DONATE TO RESTORE NET NEUTRALITY
The Executive Order has a bunch of pretty great stuff in it. It pushes for “Right to Repair” rules, tightens restrictions on anti-competitive corporate mergers, and targets corporate surveillance and abusive data harvesting practices.
In addition to the section pushing for the FCC to overturn Ajit Pai’s repeal and restore net neutrality, the order calls for the agency to:
-
Require more transparency about prices and speeds from Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon,
-
Stop ISPs from charging ridiculously high and unfair termination fees, and
-
Prevent ISPs from cutting monopoly deals with landlords that limit tenants’ choices
But here’s the thing: the FCC isn’t really gonna be able to do any of that stuff until they restore Title II and the Open Internet Order. And to do that, the Biden administration needs to nominate a fifth commissioner.
But so far they’ve been dragging their feet on this crucial nomination. That’s why we’re running a major campaign to pressure the White House to prioritize restoring net neutrality and reigning in Big Tech and Big Telecom monopolies. Will you chip in?
It’s nice to have some good news for once, but we can’t let this opportunity slip away. Please give what you can and spread the word.
Thanks for all you do,
-Evan at Fight for the Future
