National Principals Month is a month-long celebration in October where principals are put in the spotlight for their endless commitment to the principalship.
During our fight for equitable funding for Ward 8 Schools, I spoke tirelessly with principals across the ward about their concerns for their students, teachers, programs, curriculum and more. These school leaders fight every day to give their students the best education and I look forward to continuing the work alongside them as the Councilmember, an advocate, and a parent to ensure we serve the members of their schools and our community.
Best,
Trayon White, Sr.
Councilmember, Ward 8

** Intersectional Discrimination Protection Amendment Act of 2019
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
What This Bill Would Do
This bill explicitly prohibits discrimination wholly or partially because of any combination of statutorily protected traits.
Why This Legislation Is Important
Discrimination continues to occur. Under the federal law, Title VII the protected class is not able to be combined with another protected class. An individual can claim gender and race and the claim will be investigated under each individual claim but not the combination. This legislation establishes explicitly that a claim of discrimination in the District of Columbia can be filed as a combination of any of the protected classes.
Housing Provider Repeated Violation Enhancement Amendment Act of 2019

What This Bill Would Do
This bill amends the Abatement and Condemnation of Nuisance Properties Omnibus Amendment Act of 2008 to allow a receiver to be appointed for property owner who has flagrant, repeated, fraudulent, or willful violation that happens 3 times in 18 months or 3 housing code violations that endangers the health, safety, or welfare of the tenants that occur in an 18- month period.
Why This Legislation Is Important
Living in a rental unit should not put your health in jeopardy. However, the Office of the Attorney General continues to sue property owner because the health of District residents is being endangered. This legislation seeks to provide a method to have the harmful issues corrected under the supervision of a receiver.
