I believe that if we want to effect real, lasting change, we need to take a hard look at who is at the decision-making table in Washington—and whose voices are missing.
That starts in the U.S. Senate, where only two Black women have ever been elected. Today, there are zero Black women serving in the Senate.
Next year, we can change that by helping two phenomenal leaders flip their Senate seats blue: Val Demings in Florida and Cheri Beasley in North Carolina. [[link removed]]
Black women are the backbone of the Democratic party. But too often, they lack the platform, resources and support they need to run for office and win.
One of the biggest hurdles is fundraising. During the 2018 midterm elections, the Center for Responsive Politics found that the average Black woman candidate raised 46% less than the average white male candidate—and 55% less than the average white woman candidate.
Cheri Beasley and Val Demings are excellent candidates—battle-tested, experienced, and effective leaders who are committed to the fight for justice and equality. They can win in their Southern, purple states, making history and expanding our Senate majority.
But they cannot do it alone. They need our help to raise the resources early—when it matters most—to build winning campaigns and win.
Please, join me in rushing a donation to elect Cheri Beasley and Val Demings to the Senate and build a diverse coalition of Democratic women in Washington. I’ve set an ambitious goal of raising $50,000 for Cheri Beasley and Val Demings by midnight—and I’ll keep you updated on our progress. [[link removed]]
With gratitude,
Kirsten
