The Colorado Senate candidates shared a stage last night at a forum in
Pueblo—but you couldn’t call it a debate. The Colorado Democratic Party
prohibits us from asking one another questions or from recording or
live-streaming these events.

The effect: most voters have little idea that we’re running, much less how
we differ.

The party’s rules are meant to shield our eventual nominee from Republican
attacks, but I doubt the GOP will pull its punches. Mitch McConnell and
his team aren’t known for their subtlety.

I’m very grateful to the folks who showed up last night. But the only way
to win this race is to deliver our message to a wider audience.

Real differences divide the candidates in this race:

— I strongly support the Green New Deal and Medicare for All. The other
leading Democrat equates those progressive priorities with “the
discredited ideas of Karl Marx and Joseph Stalin.”

— I won bipartisan recognition as one of the most effective legislative
leaders in America. Chuck Schumer recruited a candidate who said he didn’t
want the job and wouldn’t be good at it.

— I’ve signed the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge. My opponent is the only
candidate who refuses to do so.
