Jack, infamous anti-vaxxer, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s organization posted a statement addressing his frivolous lawsuit trying to unmask the identity of a Daily Kos community user and believe me, it's a doozy.

Their statement completely misses the facts of our case -- that we are fighting for our First Amendment rights and to protect anonymous political speech. It is essential that Daily Kos take all efforts to protect the anonymity of all of its users, protecting them from adverse treatment, like in the workplace, or even physical harm.

It is for this reason that Daily Kos has a strict policy of never revealing the actual identity of any community member. It is also why we are standing our ground and fighting the lawsuit that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has filed against us.

Can you please donate $5 to support our legal efforts to protect the anonymity of our Daily Kos users and stand up to this dangerous conspiracy theorist?

In Markos' post reacting to Kennedy and his organization's rambling statement, he points out in particular that the "Daily Kos’ malicious article claimed that Kennedy spoke at a Nazi rally in Berlin organized by right-wing extremist organizations…"

But here's the thing, it's not just the Daily Kos user that reported this -- it was literally translated from a German paper's account of the rally. CBS News, the New York Times, the Irish Times and Reuters all reported a similar account of the rally being organized by right-wing extremist groups like the AFD party, the neo-Nazi NPD party and various other anti-Semitic conspiracy groups.

So why aren't those other news media companies being sued? It's not just because those other media companies have large legal departments to easily dismiss petty lawsuits, but because Kennedy needs to know the identity of his attacker. Kennedy is siccing his lawyers on us to financially and legally punish a critic; Kennedy is trying to bully us.

Here's the thing, Kennedy comes from one of those old-school, dynasty families with millions upon millions of dollars to throw at frivolous lawsuits. Daily Kos doesn't have that kind of money -- we rely on thousands of grassroots donors that give just a few dollars at a time to help us make ends meet and now we are spending some of that money standing up for our First Amendment rights and protecting our community users -- it's worth every penny.

We need your help to protect our community and defend ourselves. Lawsuits like these are expensive to deal with, and nearly half of our revenue comes from thousands of grassroots supporters chipping in a few dollars at a time. That's why I am asking you to donate $5 to Daily Kos today.

Thanks for all you do,
Amanda McKay, Daily Kos
