My friends,
On the farm where I grew up, we had to work with our hands. I don’t mean just planting, weeding, and harvesting. We had to build and repair fences and barns and maintain and operate machines. If we couldn’t do it ourselves, we knew skilled tradespeople who could. We respected people who worked with their hands. We valued them, because they could do something we couldn’t, and their work was essential to keep our farm going.
I think it’s great when we talk about expanding college education to everyone who wants it. But I also understand that college isn’t for everyone, especially for people who have the skill and aptitude to pursue a trade. So when we talk about investing in the workforce of tomorrow, in addition to providing funding for college education for those who want it, we should also make sure we’re investing in technical and vocational education for the skilled tradespeople of tomorrow. I intend to invest in our future in Congress. Can you help me get there by donating $10 today? secure.actblue.com/donate/2107-q3-dh?refcode=210711-email
Tomorrow’s economies may employ new technologies, but we’re still going to need people who can build things, wire things, and fix things to make it all work. We’ll need carpenters and steelworkers to construct the buildings that will house wind- and solar-powered plants, electricians to rewire our power grids, welders to attach blades to windmill turbines, mechanics to fix our electric cars, and on and on. Tradespeople not only build things, they build small businesses, create jobs, expand the middle class, provide futures, and grow economies.
We have a legacy of people who work with their hands in Maryland’s First District. Let’s invest in our future by making sure we continue to produce the kind of skilled tradespeople who can make our district a center for the economies of tomorrow.
Give any amount to my campaign today if you’re with me.
