Climate
change is here and now — you don’t need to look any further than my own
community:

[ Headline: ]Headline: 78 people in Washington died because of recent heat wave,
health department says

[ Headline: ]Headline: Crushing heat wave in Pacific Northwest and Canada cooked
shellfish alive by the millions

Heatwaves, droughts, and wildfires in the West, heavy rain and flooding in
the Midwest, record cold temperatures, and more frequent hurricanes in the
South and East — this will be our new normal unless we ACT.

That’s why, in partnership with my colleagues in the Congressional
Progressive Caucus, we’re making it clear: We can’t wait — the
infrastructure package that Congress is working on right now is a golden
opportunity to tackle this crisis with the urgency it demands.

[ [link removed] ]Will you join me in calling on House leadership to provide the bold
investments in infrastructure that we need to defeat this climate crisis
and ensure our frontline communities have the resources and investments
they need to overcome it?

Our infrastructure isn't remotely ready for the worst effects of climate
change. Just look at what record temperatures did to roads in Seattle…

buckling due to extreme heat

and streetcar cables in Portland, Oregon...

Voters across America delivered Democrats the House, Senate, and White
House. They want us to go big, go bold, and go fast on the change we
promised them — including action on climate. Negotiating away necessary
investments in infrastructure that make our communities more resilient
from the impacts of climate change in pursuit of MAYBE getting a few
Republican votes is irresponsible — and we can’t back down.

[ [link removed] ]If you agree with me that now — not a few months or years from now — is
the time to act boldly, add your name to our petition calling on House
leadership to take action on climate change in our infrastructure package.

In solidarity,

Pramila
