Friend,
Recently, our majority-Black and low-wealth district experienced devastating flooding, which demonstrated how communities like ours are disproportionately impacted during climate crises.
Among those affected are a group of 15 elderly people who were displaced after flooding damage in their apartment building. They urgently need our help.
Can you donate now to pay for these seniors to live safely for the next month while they’re displaced due to flooding damage?
Here are two residents of the building, Mary and Jesse:
The displaced seniors have been staying at a downtown Detroit hotel as their apartments are fixed up. But the management company who placed them there just stopped paying for their rooms.
Now they’re in crisis, since they can’t afford to stay in the hotel rooms and can’t return to their apartments for at least 30 more days.
A local nonprofit organization, Bridging Communities, is working hard to ensure their safety, as many of them have serious health conditions. But the organization urgently needs our support to help raise at least $6,300 so these seniors can live safely for the next month.
Please donate as much as you can right now, to ensure that these seniors can live safely for the next month while they’re displaced from flooding damage.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately, with 100% of your donation going directly to Bridging Communities:
Thank you so much,
Rashida
P.S. We’re pushing for more emergency relief and working on policies to update old infrastructure—so cities like mine are equipped to handle increasing extreme weather events caused by the climate crisis. We’re also holding fossil fuel corporations accountable and working with grassroots activists to build strategies that address climate change. Stay tuned!
