I've always been the kind of guy who will do what I believe is right. No matter the political cost.
My stances on my core issues haven't had to "evolve," and my sense of right and wrong isn't determined by the way it polls.
So, I wasn't *exactly* surprised when the PA GOP recently blasted out this flaming hot partisan garbage to their email list of supporters:

John, I will NEVER let fear of far-right criticism from the GOP stand in the way of doing what's right for the working people of Pennsylvania. And I won't ever back down from my commitment to fighting for second chances. I will always proudly stand on the side of second chances, freedom, and justice for those serving wrongful or excessive convictions.
Our Republican opponents may try to smear me + my record, but I'm just going to keep doing what's right. If that kind of attitude is something you agree we need more of in the halls of the U.S. Senate, then I'm asking you for a personal favor on behalf of our entire campaign today:
To be perfectly honest with you, John, it doesn't come as a big surprise that the PA GOP is trying to weaponize my record on clemency against me. I would put my political career on the line in an instant in pursuit of what is right and just.
To me, it's beyond worth it to change a life or to reunite a family torn apart by our merciless criminal justice system.
One of the accomplishments I'm most proud of is that, in my first 2.5 years as Chair of the PA Board of Pardons, we have successfully cut down the clemency application process time by streamlining the process and making it more accessible to Pennsylvanians. This has allowed us to process more pardons and recommend more commutations to the Governor than in the previous 25 years combined.
That is the kind of work that I believe is worth doing.
