Friend, I’ve been working toward this since 2015. For years, parents have been coming to me and saying that no matter how hard they work, even if they work 2 or 3 jobs, they can’t get their kids out of poverty. For the last four decades, our economy has worked really well for the top 10%, but has not worked for the bottom 90% — that starts to change now.

Next week, thanks to the American Rescue Plan, parents nationwide will begin receiving up to $300 per child each month through December. Here’s what that means:

  • We're cutting child poverty nearly in half and lifting nearly 10 million kids closer to or above the poverty line.
  • Ninety-six percent of Colorado families will benefit from the expanded Child Tax Credit.
  • Over a million Colorado kids will benefit, and about 57,000 will be lifted out of poverty
  • We'll lift up poor children across all races and regions. Experts projected we could move an estimated 4.1 million Latinx kids and 441,000 Asian American kids above or closer to the poverty line and cut the child poverty rate by 52% for African American children and 61% for Native American kids.

This expanded child tax credit is one of the most significant policies in our generation and the most substantial reduction in childhood poverty in decades.

We’re making huge strides, but we can't grow complacent, not now. We must make these tax credits permanent if we want to end childhood poverty in America for good.

Today, I want to say thanks for everything you've contributed to this fight. I'm so grateful for your devotion to this effort and for your continued support to give our kids a better future.

Thanks again,

Michael
