For too long, our flawed approach to public safety has prioritized criminalization, surveillance, and incarceration, rather than care, justice, and healing.
It’s time to transform our approach.
That’s why I joined Representatives Cori Bush, Pramila Jayapal, and Jan Schakowsky to introduce the People’s Response Act.
Our bill would transform public safety by directing the federal government to take a health-centered approach and invest in trauma-informed, community-based responses that will truly keep people safe.
I won’t stop fighting to call out cruelty and oppression in our public safety systems. Our communities deserve better. Our communities deserve public health approaches that actually save lives.
A transformed public safety system is possible — one where first responders will serve to protect our communities and provide care for all.
