We’re at a defining moment.

In the last week, we’ve seen Exxon lobbyists bragging about their
influence in Congress and their work to undermine climate measures in
Biden’s infrastructure bill.

We’ve seen the ocean literally on fire after a pipeline leak in the Gulf
of Mexico sent infernal flames boiling to the surface.

All of this during what could be our last chance to pass climate
legislation before it’s too late for our planet — and Congress is still
negotiating a bipartisan deal that does not match the scale of the climate
crisis.

We can't miss this opportunity or water down our demands. Simply put, the
reconciliation bill must meet our climate goals.

As negotiations continue, we need to hear from you: [ [link removed] ]Will you share your
thoughts with us on the state of the climate crisis and what needs to be
done in your community to achieve climate justice?

We’ve always known that there’s a dark underbelly in Washington that’s run
by corporate lobbyists and special interests. But rarely do we see it
exposed in real time, in current legislation right before us in Congress.

The leaked tapes show two Exxon lobbyists discussing Exxon’s secretive
efforts to fight climate initiatives in Washington – including their
weekly meetings with certain senators and the key targets for their
lobbying efforts.^1

From the beginning, Alexandria knew that packaging the infrastructure bill
as “bipartisan” was a cover for the real beneficiaries of the deal –
corporate interests who have direct access to lawmakers.

Coordinating with Exxon or any other corporate lobbyist is a direct
affront to our democracy and the communities around the country who are
suffering the devastating impacts of the climate crisis.

Biden and Congress must do what voters elected them to do: act on climate.

climate goals today, and we’ll use your responses to help plan our
strategy.

With thanks,

Team AOC
