It’s Disability Pride Month! We should all have the right to make safe and autonomous decisions about our bodies. Our right to bodily autonomy and sexual freedom is integral to both the reproductive and disability justice movements.
Disability justice is reproductive justice. Take time this month to learn more about the history of disability rights in the United States, including the history of forced sterilization and eugenics, and issues with guardianships and conservatorships.

Self-Care
Self-care is an intentional practice that roots us in the present despite the oppression we may face. Regular self-care is essential for sustainable and effective activism.
Here are our self-care tips for July:
-
Therapy! I am a huge advocate for therapy. It is a travesty that many do not have access to mental health care services due to a variety of factors, including but not limited to a lack of funding, insurance, and location. When I first started my therapy journey years ago, I was able to utilize local colleges as they had extremely discounted rates for the public. That option along with online sessions are helping to break the barrier for some as we continue to fight for health care access for all. If it is feasible, accessible, and of interest to you, finding a good therapist is truly worth it. Now that it is covered by my insurance, I've been able to build a trusting, affordable relationship with my therapist. It has been transformative in how I view myself, the relationships I have, and the world around me. -Jessica, digital outreach manager based in Washington D.C.
-
Rest. I always joke, ‘If you don’t choose a day to relax, your body will choose one for you’ but it’s true! Rest is essential in movement work and is an act of radical self-care. (Also, worrying about what you have to do later while ‘relaxing’ is not relaxing!) -Caitlin, outreach and culture manager based in Alexandria, Virginia
-
Hold Your Boundaries! As the world begins to shift into a 'post-vaccine' society, it might feel overwhelming to go back out into the world. That's ok! Remind yourself and the people around you what you still are/are not comfortable with. You deserve to shift into this next phase, in whatever way works best for you. -Ten, campaign coordinator based in Greensboro, North Carolina
See you next month!
