VICTORY IN NEW YORK
Primary results are in for our New York City Council candidates! [[link removed]] And this November, the Council is going to be a lot more diverse – and will almost certainly include six new out LGBTQ members. [[link removed]]
Spotlight candidate Crystal Hudson, who won her race and currently has 54% of the vote in District 35 [[link removed]] , wrote a touching message to supporters on Twitter. Read her note here [[link removed]] !
Tiffany Cabán won her race for District 22 with 62.6% of the vote [[link removed]] ! As she told The New York Times: “Across the board, you were seeing a group of candidates that more clearly reflected the people that needed to be represented. That’s really huge, and I think that drove a lot of the success.” [[link removed]]
Kristin Richardson Jordan has defeated a long-term incumbent in District 9 [[link removed]] ! Should she and Crystal Hudson secure victory in November, they’ll be the first two Black out queer woman elected to the New York City Council [[link removed]] .
Chi Ossé, who secured victory in District 36, spoke with OkayPlayer about his victory and his future plans for the city. [[link removed]]

Correction: A previous email incorrectly said Lynn Schulman would be the first out queer person elected to public office from Queens, however she would actually be one of the first out queer woman, along with Tiffany Cabán. Daniel Dromm and Jimmy Van Bramer were two of the first out queer people elected in Queens. We thank them for their dedicated public service and outspoken advocacy for LGBTQ equality in New York City!
