Friend, I recently wrote an article encouraging Congress and the Biden administration to include investment in our public schools in the future infrastructure package. My co-authors — former Congressman George Miller and American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten — and I have seen first-hand how poor air quality and leaky roofs in schools can affect kids’ learning environments, which is why we are calling on President Biden to include green school initiatives in his infrastructure package.
I would love it if you took the time to read it, to understand better how investment in school infrastructure can benefit our nation economically, strengthen our communities, and improve environmental sustainability.

As I say in the article, “schools should remain a pillar of the infrastructure package.” I have spent my entire career fighting to strengthen public education across the nation, and investing in sustainable school infrastructure goes hand in hand. When I serve as governor of Maryland, I will take every opportunity to serve as a champion for students across the state by prioritizing infrastructure investments that combat climate change.
To better understand my outlook on education improvements and to understand one of the issues I am most passionate about, I hope you’ll read my op-ed, friend.

Thank you for your time,
John King Jr.
