Creating Livable Asian Cities: Challenges Ahead for Urbanization in Asia Breaking the Ocean Connection in Aquaculture
Neeta Pokhrel, Chief of the Asia Development Bank’s Water Sector Group, says that while Nature-Based solutions are increasingly seen as an effective way to build urban resilience and rejuvenation, “implementation [in Asia] is still very limited.” China and the U.S. and other large aquaculture producers may reduce wild fish catches. But Karen Mancl writes that “the current rate of harvesting ocean forage fish to feed farmed fish, like salmon, trout, and bass, is not sustainable, and may lead to the collapse of the forage fishery.”
