Greg Abbott's move to defund the Texas legislature is one of the most anti-democratic things a governor could do to a co-equal branch of government.
That's why Democrats are pressuring GOP Speaker Dade Phelan to refuse to pass any bills during the special legislative session unless and until funding for the legislature is restored.
Boot Texas Republicans is executing a pressure campaign to demand Phelan stand with Democrats to restore funding for the legislative branch. Will you join us by signing our petition today?
Thank you,
Boot Texas Republicans

Jack xxxxxx,
Last month, Gov. Greg Abbott defunded the Texas legislature -- one of the most brazen attacks on democracy in our state’s history.
Now Democrats are taking a stand and demanding that Republican Speaker Dade Phelan refuse to pass any legislation during the upcoming special legislative session unless and until funding for the legislature is restored.
Speaker Phelan has previously signaled his disapproval of Abbott’s move to defund the legislature, citing the fact that the legislature shouldn’t be controlled by any governor -- Republican or Democrat.
But Phelan hasn't signed onto the plan yet. So Boot Texas Republican is calling on him to stand up for the independence of the Texas legislature. Will you add your name to join us and demand that Dade Phelan stand with Democrats to restore funding for the legislative branch?
If Abbott gets his way, hard-working staff -- everyone from janitors to nonpartisan researchers -- won’t get paid to keep our legislature running.
That means no one to answer your calls or emails, no pay to research the impact of extremist bills Republicans put forward, and no workers to keep the halls clean and the legislature running.
It’s clear Greg Abbott will do anything to advance his radical agenda to attack our rights and undermine our voices. Let’s hold him accountable -- then give him the boot!
Thank you,
Boot Texas Republicans
