Hi there, I’d love to share a story with you.
Special Olympics began in my backyard. In 1968, my mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, started a summer camp in that backyard for kids with intellectual disabilities (ID). She was determined to show the world that people with ID are capable, that they’re athletic, and that they should be treated as equals.
From my backyard, Special Olympics has grown to a movement that reaches over 5.7 million athletes in 200 countries and jurisdictions. That impact is a testament to my mother’s determination. And it’s also a reminder that big things start small — that’s how we change the world.
Tomorrow would have been my mother's 100th Birthday. She was a pioneer for inclusion, a game-changer, and a champion for people with ID in the U.S. and worldwide. Will you join me in signing the EKS 100 Birthday Card and help celebrate her life?

Every day, supporters like you donate time and energy to help athletes get on the field. Unified teams break down barriers every day by bringing people with and without ID onto the same team. And watching these athletes compete teaches us all about courage, bravery, and grit.
It’s truly a dream come true to see my mother’s legacy thrive for over 50 years––I can’t thank you enough!
Our work is not done yet. But I am so thankful that my mother’s spirit lives on in the hearts of Special Olympics athletes, coaches, volunteers, and dedicated supporters like you.

Extending my joy and gratitude,
Maria Shriver
