Friday 16 July the People’s Assembly and Tolpuddle Festival present:
For the second year running, the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival and the People's Assembly will be hosting the annual festival online.
The massive protest in 1834 helped bring home in freedom the Tolpuddle Martyrs and is celebrated as a key step in gaining rights of working people to organise. At a time when the Government is trying to restrict our right to protest, this launch event will link the Tolpuddle story with current battles over our rights and how we build a better life for working people after the pandemic.
The mixture of great protest songs with inspiring speakers will make for a great evening and we will be joined by:
Dr Rosena Allin-Khan MP - Shadow Cabinet Member for Mental Health
Billy Bragg - singer-songwriter and activist
Laura Pidcock - People's Assembly National Secretary
Hannah David - South West TUC Chair and PCS National Executive Member
Keith Ewing - Professor of Public Law, IER and Campaign for Trade Union Freedom
Marvin Rees - Mayor of Bristol
Sarah Woolley - General Secretary of the BFAWU
Plus many more!
Don't forget to tune in, live on our social media channels from 7pm on Friday the 16th July.
Oppose the Tory Party Conference in Manchester this October!
The Tories are back in Manchester and so we will be there to protest them every step of the way. There will be a national demonstration and march on Sunday 3rd October and Manchester's venues will be alive with counter politics over the rest of their conference weekend.
There is still plenty of time to prepare, so please pass motions supporting the demo through your trade union branch and see if your local People's Assembly group of Trades Council can organise coaches to transport activists and trade unionists from your area.
