Dear MoveOn member,
U.S. Senator Ron Johnson from Wisconsin is one of the top apologists for the January 6 insurrection and one of the worst anti-vaccine disinformation spreaders in elected office. With Johnson up for re-election in 2022, MoveOn is doing everything we can to defeat him and ensure the GOP doesn't take control of the Senate.
With the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals, all eyes in Wisconsin will be on the big games. That's why, during the the Bucks' first home game in the finals, MoveOn will run TV ads that expose Ron Johnson and tell the truth about his support for the white supremacist attack on our democracy and other views that make Johnson so dangerous and embarrassing for Wisconsin.
Amped up by Donald Trump, Ron Johnson, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and the worst elements of the right wing, the insurrectionists carried zip ties and chemical weapons into the Capitol, in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election and violently install Trump in the White House for an illegal second term.
Five people died in the attack.1
Hundreds more were injured.2
Yet Ron Johnson claims that the insurrection was a "peaceful protest."3
And it's not just sedition that makes Johnson so embarrassing. From being banned from YouTube for airing anti-vaccine disinformation to being booed by his own constituents after opposing making Juneteenth a federal holiday, he has carved out a role for himself as perhaps the most extremist Republican in the Senate.4
No wonder the biggest newspaper in Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel recently declared him "not fit to be [Wisconsin's] senator."5
We simply cannot allow Johnson to continue to serve in the U.S. Senate.
That's why we're airing hard-hitting TV ads during the NBA Finals. The last time the Milwaukee Bucks made the NBA Finals was in 1974—meaning hundreds of thousands of fans in Wisconsin will be glued to their TV screens, cheering their team on.
That makes this the perfect time to get the word out about Johnson's support for racism, fascism, and wild conspiracy theories—especially to people who might not always follow politics closely.
Thanks for all you do.
–David, Chris, Eden, Nita, and the rest of the team
