Friend,
Today, I announced a resolution with the Sackler family and Purdue Pharma over the role they played in creating the opioid crisis.

Under this resolution, the Sacklers will pay $4.3 billion, including $90 million to Massachusetts. We believe this is the most that individuals have ever paid for breaking the law. Purdue and the Sacklers are out of business for good. And, due to our demands, this resolution will secure the largest public disclosure in history.
Purdue will post online every piece of evidence from every lawsuit and investigation, plus 20 million documents never given to investigators before, including communications with their lawyers. Families, regulators, journalists, public health officials – we will all see what they did.
Three years ago, we were the first state to sue the Sacklers over their role in the opioid epidemic. Each step of the way, our work has been made possible by the strength of the families who have lost loved ones to this crisis and want to prevent other families from experiencing the same.
I know that this resolution will never bring back their loved ones, but I’m hopeful that they will find comfort in knowing that because of their perseverance, the Sacklers are turning over information that will be critical in our efforts to stop this from ever happening again.
And these brave families will continue to guide our work combatting this crisis every day forward.
Thanks for all you do,
Maura
