Two of America’s wealthiest billionaires are spending billions to fulfill their fantasies of traveling to space. Meanwhile, in a post-pandemic America, more than one in 10 people are struggling to put food on the table.
Let’s put this another way: America’s billionaires – there’s about 650 of them – hold more than $4 trillion in wealth. The entire bottom half of Americans – about 165 million people – hold less than half of that.
You don’t have to be an economist to realize there’s something wrong.
We need a wealth tax. It would apply to only the very richest few, and generate trillions of dollars in revenue for COVID relief, health care, education, housing, renewable energy, and more, transforming all of our lives for the better.
We can’t sit back as the top 1% accumulate unimaginable new levels of wealth. If billionaires paid their fair share, we could help millions of Americans through free public college, universal child care, and student debt relief. Let’s keep up the fight.
