Dear John,

When CM Punk and his wife, AJ, saw a picture of their pup Larry’s crooked underbite, it was love at first sight. As if Larry's unusual smile and big bat ears didn't make it evident enough, the former WWE champion, professional wrestler, commentator and actor saw Larry as he saw himself: a bit of an outsider.

As we get closer to a No Kill Chicago, we're saving an increasing number of unique pets like Larry – pups facing the long odds of an Underdog. They may prefer the company of an older crowd or want to be the only pet in a home. Maybe they're looking for a person experienced in loving them. They're misunderstood, unconventional and a bit more work, but when they find the perfect family, they become Wonderdogs. Sure these pups need some extra help to find their people, but that's why we're here.

Through our From Underdog to Wonderdog program, we're shining a light on the overlooked dogs at PAWS, proving just how incredible they can be, and offering extra support for their adopters through our new Wonderdog Hero's Club.

Just look at Larry – he was a challenging pup looking for a specific family but, through the right home with CM Punk and six years of love, Larry’s lived up to his full potential and then some. “He really is just overall the perfect fit for our house,” said CM Punk.

** Putting the “Community” in Community Outreach

Community is crucial to our No Kill work. Our crew of animal lovers is the driving force that allows us to continue saving lives. Since 2016, South Side resident and PAWS Community Outreach partner, Gloria Capler, has exemplified what it means to be an advocate for the pets in her community. From hosting the GusMobile to driving her neighbors' pets to our Englewood Outreach Center, she's a force of so much good.

** Tallulah, the Picnic Crasher
------------------------------------------------------------

Meet Tallulah. When her former person could no longer care for Tallulah, she brought the feline to Douglass Park in her carrier and scoped out an animal lover picnicking nearby. As if by fate, Alex King, a member of our Intake Team, saw the interaction and stepped in to take Tallulah home. Now, she’s in a loving PAWS foster home and ready to find her family!
