The New York Times reports that the Capitol Police are now opening field offices around the country to monitor growing threats to lawmakers.
Six months following the deadly siege on our U.S. Capitol by Trump’s mob, the assault on our democracy is far from over.
With the support of our members, People For is helping to lead the fight to stop anti-democracy extremists and hold insurrectionists and those incited them accountable.
To mark the six-month anniversary of the insurrection online donations will 3X-MATCHED, but only until Friday (TOMORROW).
The lies and conspiracy theories that fueled the January 6 insurrection are still being nurtured by far-right leaders, including Trump’s most fervent supporters in Congress. Those same lies are being used to attack the right to vote with racist voter suppression laws around the country, threatening our free and fair elections. Republicans keep trying to bury the truth, putting up one roadblock after another to prevent meaningful investigations into the attack on the Capitol.
Now, House Republican Leader and Trump ally Kevin McCarthy is in the process of choosing which Republicans he will recommend to a new select committee, pushed forward by Speaker Pelosi, that will investigate the insurrection.
Greg Sargent at the Washington Post writes that “those trafficking in conspiracy theories and hints of violence toward the opposition” (think Marjorie Taylor Greene, Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, and other Trump lapdogs) are the most eager to serve on the committee – with their clear goal being to “comprehensively deny the reality of what happened.”

And we need your support to keep fueling our work to take on the far-right extremists who continue to wage war on the truth and on American democracy.
People For’s Right Wing Watch just released an in-depth report examining the off-duty law enforcement officials among those seditious rioters charged with crimes on January 6. We’re organizing and supporting the fight for accountability. And we’re making sure that voters have accountability for the insurrection – and attempts to cover it up – on their minds when they cast their ballots. Your role in this is crucial.

Those who recklessly try to downplay the seriousness of the Capitol siege or push false narratives that deny the facts of that day are playing with fire. Accountability and a full reckoning for January 6 and the groups and individuals involved is the only way to prevent such an attack from happening again.
We’re starting to make progress with the new House select committee but we need to keep pushing.
