I’m fighting for the Chesapeake and our Maryland priorities in the House.

Summer in Maryland is synonymous with crab.

There’s nothing quite like going to a restaurant in the summer, sitting around a table with family and friends, and enjoying Maryland crab straight from the Chesapeake.

Unfortunately this season, the crabbing industry in Maryland is hurting.

As we make our way out of the pandemic and folks are going back to restaurants, the demand for crab is rising and so are prices. And at the same time, the crabbing industry is still struggling from a worker shortage due to a Trump Administration-era cap on visas that previously allowed seasonal foreign workers to come to our state and work at crab-picking houses.

I know crabs and the Chesapeake Bay are cornerstones of our state’s culture and our economy.

I have fought to make sure the Chesapeake Bay and our Maryland priorities are represented in Congress and today, I'm proud to say that I helped advance a plan to dedicate over $90 million to essential funding for the Chesapeake Bay.

TEAM DUTCH POLL:
Do you support efforts in Congress to protect the Chesapeake Bay?

YES >>             NO >>

This measure would ensure we have the resources to protect and preserve the Chesapeake Bay -- from clean water and air, to our public lands and endangered species. It would help us combat the effects of climate change so we can protect this precious natural resource Marylanders love and depend on, and of course, protect the natural habitat for Maryland crabs.

Because protecting the Chesapeake isn’t just good for crab lovers -- it’s good for business and it’s good for our communities.
