Mice. Insects. Lead pipes. No air in the summer. No heat in the winter.
Chronic underfunding and poor oversight from the federal government has left too many families living in unsafe, inhumane public housing conditions without the power to do something about it.
As the daughter of a tenant’s rights organizer, Ayanna proudly unveiled the Tenant Empowerment Act last week, alongside Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Maxine Waters, and housing justice advocates.
The Tenant Empowerment Act is bold, sweeping legislation that will help build tenant power to hold the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and neglectful landlords accountable for poor housing conditions.
Safe, stable housing is a human right. If you agree, will you add your name to become a grassroots co-sponsor of the Tenant Empowerment Act and help put power back in the hands of tenants to improve their living conditions?

For generations, intentional policy choices have resulted in unsafe, unsanitary public housing conditions that lack sufficient hot water, reliable heat, or a roof that keeps out the rain and snow.
What’s more, Black and brown renters disproportionately develop chronic health conditions due to hazards such as mold, allergens, lead, and poor air quality.
We all deserve to live with dignity in clean, comfortable, and stable housing — and HUD-assisted tenants have a right to organize and demand it.
The Tenant Empowerment Act will advance justice and equity in our housing policy, center the fair treatment of tenants, and increase housing stability for millions of people — but we need to leverage the full power of our movement to get it passed.
Add your name to become a grassroots co-sponsor of the Tenant Empowerment Act now to help build tenant power and put pressure on the federal government to improve public housing conditions.
Thank you,
The A-Team
